Simplified Chinese characters reduce the number of Chinese characters’strokes andlower the spatial density. They improve the clarity of Chinese characters and thespeed of writing, they also provide some convenience for computer processing ofChinese characters. However, it partly lessens the justification of word structure, andthe inheritance of Chinese characters’culture during the simplification of the Chinesecharacters. That is also the main reason why simplified Chinese characters arecriticized by people .Firstly, the paper defines the concept of the word structure justification, and itcombs through the history and present situation of the word structure justificationboth on the diachronic and synchronic aspect. On the basis of the above researches,the scope and methods of the research are determined. Then, the paper makes contrastresearch on traditional Chinese characters and simplified Chinese characters in thefirst table and the second table which belong to the Simplified Chinese CharactersSummary List, and analyses and compares the changes of the word structurejustification. Finally, the paper gives a brief on the findings of the comparison of theword structure justification, and impersonally evaluates the historically progressive ofthe Chinese character simplification according to the research consequence.The paper divides into five chapters.The preface section mainly describes the evolution of the Chinese charactersimplification and the word structure justification, which implies their changes andcontroversy. It expounds the study purpose, methods and significance.The first chapter explains the research of the Simplified Chinese CharactersSummary List, which sets a research perspective on modern Chinese characters. Thatmeans modern Chinese characters setup their pronunciation and meaning as aninspection standard both on traditional Chinese characters and simplified Chinesecharacters. They conduct a study and make statistics and analysis on these Chinesecharacters, which apply the theory of word structure on the synchronic aspect. To meet the needs of the research, simplified Chinese characters are divided into twotypes: single characters and compound characters.The second chapter does some research on grammalogue of simplified Chinesecharacters. In order to facilitate the analysis, the grammalogue are divided into singlecharacters and compound characters. Besides, they should embody the simplifiedjustification in two aspects: diminished justification and unchanged justification.The third chapter conducts a study on form and semantic motivation betweentraditional Chinese characters and simplified Chinese characters. According to thechange of simplified grammalogue, they are divided into three categories: associativecharacters, phonogram and half-sign-mark characters.The fourth chapter does some research on form and sound motivation betweentraditional Chinese characters and simplified Chinese characters. According to thechange of simplified grammalogue, they are divided into two categories: phonogramand half-sound-mark characters.The fifth chapter describes the findings of the comparison of the word structurejustification’s change between traditional Chinese characters and simplified Chinesecharacters. And it sums up the influence of the word structure justification during thesimplification of the Chinese characters. According to the above summary, it is easyfor us to realize the decline, the increase and the unchanged of the word structurejustification.
