Study On The Unearthed Bronze Weapons Of Shang-Zhou In Jianghuai Region

Jianghuai region with the splendid ancient culture is located between Yangtze River and Huaihe River. Compared with the Central Plains areas, The culture in Jianghuai region is far from the Central Plains and has its own characteristics, although it is deeply influenced by the culture on the Central Plains areas. And most of the scholars focus on studying the bronze weapons in Central Plains areas while paying few attention to those in Jianghuai region. However, the quantities of bronze weapons were unearthed from Jianghuai region, which are worthy of study.On the basis of materials of the bronze weapons unearthed scientifically, this paper has adopted the archaeological research methods and discussed respectively the problems of bronze weapons in Jianghuai region, such as, the types, stages, ages, assemblages, ect. Based on this, the inscription and nationality-belonging of bronze weapons and its relationship with the surrounding areas have also been explored. In addition, the author has put forward his own views on the Chebing(车兵)and Zhoushi(舟师)in Shang and Zhou dynasties.The introduction part has introduced the concepts of space and time and research significance of Jianghuai region, and the discovery and the excavation of bronze weapons, as well as its research status, research ideas and the problems to be solved, etc. This paper has divided its research status into three stages, every of which has achieved a lot, but still some problems remain to be solved.The second chapter is centered on the typology analysis of Shang and Zhou bronze weapons unearthed in Jianghuai region. Based on its evolution characteristics and development rules of Shang and Zhou bronze weapons, this chapter has strictly analyzed close fighting weapons, shooting in long distance weapons and protective weapons.The third part has discussed the stages and ages of Shang and Zhou bronze weapons unearthed in Jianghuai region. And this part has divided Shang and Zhou bronze weapons into four stages and nine periods, presumed the age of every stage, and summarized the evolution and characteristics of bronze weapons in this region.Chapter four has studied the assemblage of the weapons unearthed from tombs of Shang and Zhou period in Jianghuai region. Through analysis, the weapon assemblage of this region has evolved from "Combination with emphasis on dagger-axes'(重戈组合)to "Combination with emphasis on swords"(重剑组合). And the tombs with the weapons combined with Yue, Ji, Shu, etc. is in higher level.And the last chapter concerned with the discussion of the relevant problems, has firstly analyzed the inscription and nationality-belonging of the unearthed weapons and concluded that the nations which had unearthed weapons in this region are Xi, Zhu, Huang, Wu, Yue, Cai, Chu, Fu, etc. Secondly, the paper has done the comparative analysis of these areas:the Central Plains, Guanzhong area and the northern and southern part of Anhui and Jinagsu area, and concluded that the bronze weapons of Jianghuai region are influenced by the above areas and have their own characteristics. Finally, the paper has expounded the Chebing and Zhoushi in Shang and Zhou period. According to archaeological data, the author holds that Chebing has existed in the later period of Shang and Zhou dynasty while Chu, Wu, Yue, the three nations has built Zhoushi in the late Spring and Autumn period and the frequent boat wars has happened between them.
