A Study Of Relationship On Parenting Styles And Narcissistic Personality To The Aggression Of Undergraduates

In recent years, academic research quite concerns on college students'aggression. Especially, when the implicit aggression was proposed, it sets off a new round of domestic research boom. As we all know, parents are our first teachers, and their rearing styles are very important for the healthy growth of their children; Similarly, the foreign study has also found that narcissistic personality as a personality characteristic variable can significantly predict individual aggression. Based on this, the research attempted to explore the characteristics of Parenting Styles, narcissistic personality, as well as aggression of Undergraduates in the context of Chinese culture, and to further explore the influence of Parenting Styles and narcissistic personality to Aggression of Undergraduates. It looks forward to provide theory and practical support for aggression researching and psychological health education of college students.(1)In terms of the scores of explicit aggression and partial aspects, there is a significant difference between college students who have different sex, grades and who are single child in their families. Specifically speaking, in terms of the physical aggression, the boys'scores are remarkably higher than those of girls. In the area of the explicit aggression and verbal aggression, the scores of sophomores are higher than those of seniors, and in terms of physical aggression and anger, the single child's scores are notably higher than those of non-single child. Besides, Implicit Association Test (IAT) also proves that there is a common trend towards the implicit aggression between college students.(2)In terms of the scores of parenting styles, there is a significant difference between college students who have different sex, grades and birthplaces. Specifically speaking, In the area of the aspect of father's rejection and over protection, the male college students'scores are higher than those of females, but in terms of father emotional warmth, the females'scores are higher in verse. In the area of mother emotional warmth, the freshmen's scores are remarkably higher than those of sophomores, juniors and seniors. As for mothers'over protection, the scores of the college students living in the city are higher than those who live in the countryside.(3)In terms of the covert narcissism, overt narcissism and partial aspects, there is a significant difference between college students who have different sex and birthplaces. Specially speaking, in the area of over self-admiration and covert self-admiration, the scores girls get are higher than those boys get. In terms of the total overt narcissism, overt authority, overt entitlement and covert entitlement, total covert narcissism and covert vulnerability, the boys'scores are remarkably higher than those of girls. As for the overt superiority, overt self-admiration, covert self-admiration, the scores of the college students in city are notably higher than those of college students in the countryside.(4)Parenting styles play a significant role in the explicit aggression of college students. Specially speaking, parents'over protection, father's rejection and mother's rejection all play a positive predictive role in the explicit aggression. They explain its25%variation quantity together.(5)Parenting styles play a remarkable role in the college students'narcissistic personality. Specially speaking, mothers'over protection, mothers'emotional warmth and fathers'rejection all play a positive predictive role in over narcissism. They explain its8.5%variation quantity. Mothers'over protection and fathers'rejection both play a positive predictive role in covert narcissism. They explain its12.8%variation quantity.(6)The narcissistic personality for college students plays a notable predictive role in its explicit aggression. Specially speaking, cover narcissism and overt self-admiration explain30.3%variation quantity of the explicit aggression, in which cover narcissism plays a positive predictive role, but overt self-admiration plays a negative predictive role.(7)The narcissistic personality has partial medium effect between parenting styles and college students'explicit aggression. Parenting styles can directly predict the explicit aggression, which also can be indirectly predicted by narcissistic personality.
