This study aims to observe the overall situation of college students'family background, through the discussion of college students'academic achievement effected by demographic variables and the college students'family background, to analyze relationship between college students'academic achievement and family background. Therefore, this paper firstly collects related literatures and references, and concludes them on the basis of previous research to compose the questionnaire of basic information of college students'family background. Then, some colleges and universities including students from freshmen and seniors in Hunan province have been conducted a questionnaire survey. It adopts Excel and SPSS18.0statistical software package to entering, process and analyze the survey data while the analytical methods are mainly descriptive statistics analysis, four quarter statistics and ordered Logistic regression analysis.The research results shows as follows. Demographic variables such as the sex and residence have an influence on the college students'academic achievement while ethnic variables have no significant influence. The factors of objective variables about family background have a significant influence on children's academic performance are parents'divorce, the income of family, the family changes, the education degree of parents and the family cultural atmosphere. And parents'occupations have no effect on students'academic achievement. Regardless of physical labor and mental work parents are engaged in. It will not make significant influence. In addition, the college students'academic achievement have been influenced by the subjective variables of family background such as the emotions between parents and children, the parenting attitudes of fathers, the parenting style of fathers, the satisfaction of father on the academic performance of students and The expectations on child's education of parents.Finally, this paper puts forward some suggestions based on the research results from three aspects of school, family and individual students in order to improve the college students'academic achievements, thus alleviate students'academic stress.
