A Conversation Analysis Of Sensitive Topic Magagement In Chinese Television Talk Show

This present study aims to answer four questions listed below through examining our data at hand:firstly, which parts make up of a sensitive topic management and what relationships they have; secondly, what features some core parts (sensitive topic, secondary topic, and base pair) have and whether they are consistent in the aspect of structure; thirdly, what are the tying structures in these core parts and their relations with social actions; fourthly, whether there are some practices in turn control and what social organizations they have reflected.We choose CA as our research method and try to obey its tradition in our research. Four constituents of the sensitive topic management are found in our research, namely, turn, base pair, transaction and sensitive topic. In the perspective of structure, turn constructs base pair, transaction includes some base pairs, and sensitive topic consists of transaction. From the perspective of function, the choices of turn produce base pair, base pair produce transaction, and sensitive topic is the realization of transaction. Further, through examining our data, we propose three frameworks that represent the three core structure organizations, and find that they are consistent both in structure and function. When finishing the exploration of the three core parts, we begin to study their tying structures, and find two basic ways:question-answer pair and statement-response pair, words choices and phrases choices. Also, we find different focuses existing during the process of sensitive topic management, such as, the shift in sensitive topic construction, the coherence in secondary topic construction, and the format of first pair part and second pair part in base pair construction. They are some elements that produce a smoothly flowing talk. Further, we try to make a close examination about the turn design and find some practices in turn control, in which the guest sometimes takes their turns for clear queries or ending up the topic, meanwhile, the host will re-control the turn to protect their own institutional identity.Certainly, some shortcomings still exist in our research, and the present study itself is also some basic work for a further study. But, we still hope our findings can provide some help for relevant researches in the future.
