| Freshmen's adaptability is the adaptability of transition period from high school to college. The individuals of the attendance to college have changed a full range of changes in the social role, living environment, and departing from the original social relations, the changed both provide new developmental opportunities and bring many challenges for the individuals. The attendance to college is an important developmental transition for adolescents. The adaptability of transition period is both directly affecting the individuals current physical and mental development and have significant influence on the development of individuals adulthood.Currently, there were many researches about freshmen's adaptability in the domestic, but used measurement tools were not uniform, obtained results were great differences, these limitations made it difficult to compare studies. Therefore, it was necessary to seek the tool of relatively uniform measurement of freshmen's adaptability, in order to deepen the follow-up study. In foreign, SACQ revised by Baker and Siryk in1999was widely used in freshmen counseling work, and its reliability and validity were high, but there were many shortcomings in the questionnaire, it needed to be further revised. According to the differences of Chinese and Western educational background, it was necessary that revising SACQ is suitable for adaptability questionnaire of measuring Chinese freshmen's adaptability.In this study, the original scale was translated into the Chinese version of questionnaire, and this study analyzed the trial of the Chinese version of questionnaire using item analysis and exploratory factor analysis, the result was that the Adaptability Questionnaire of Freshmen contained60items in five dimensions; and then tested the1075freshmen using the revised questionnaire, through item analysis and exploratory factor analysis, the formal Adaptability Questionnaire of Freshmen contained36items in five dimensions, and tested reliability and validity of the revised questionnaire; finally, this study investigated adaptability characteristics of today's college freshmen using the revised questionnaire.The results of study showed that:(1)The revised Adaptability Questionnaire of Freshmen had high reliability and validity, and could provide a kind of effective tool for measurement of freshmen's adaptability. According to the results of exploratory factor analysis, the freshmen's adaptability could be divided into five dimensions: Interpersonal Adaptability, Overall Evaluation, Individual Emotional Adaptability, Learning Adaptability, Approbation Degree for college. The result of confirmatory factor analysis showed that the model of freshmen's adaptability fit better.(2)Overall, freshmen's adaptability generally were in the middle and upper levels. The order of size of the factors from highest to lowest followed:Interpersonal Adaptability, Approbation Degree for College, Individual Emotional Adaptability, Overall Evaluation, Earning Adaptability.(3)There were not significant differences in the two different gender on the overall freshmen's adaptability, but on the Individual Emotional Adaptability, men's score was significantly higher than female's; and on the Approbation Degree for College, female's score was significantly higher than male's; the result partially supported research hypothesis.(4)There were not significant differences in the two different subjects on the freshmen's adaptability levels, the result did not support research hypothesis. (5)Generally, there were not significant differences in the students on the freshmen's adaptability levels, but on the Individual Emotional Adaptability, urban freshmen's adaptability were significantly higher than rural freshmen's; and on the Approbation Degree for College, rural freshmen's adaptability were significantly higher than urban freshmen's, the result partially supported research hypothesis. |
