Group counseling means providing psychological guidance and assistance for members of the group ingroup contexts. Group counseling can make group members learn the methods and strategies to adapt tocollege life, form new life attitudes and lifestyle, develop life adjustment better. The adaptation offreshmen includes interpersonal relationship adaptation, study adaptation, campus adaptation, careeradaptation, emotion adjustment, self-adaptation, satisfaction. Freshmen adaptation has an important impacton psychological health and future development of freshmen. The research applies group counseling to theadaptation to college life of freshmen from other provinces, aiming at researching the role of groupcounseling in promoting college freshmen adaptation conditions.Select480college freshmen from the local university as research subjects. The study Surveys thedifferences in the adaptation to the current situation between freshmen from other provinces and theprovincial freshmen. Using advertisement to recruit group members,22freshmen from other provinceswere selected as subjects and divided into an experimental group and a control group (There is nosignificant difference between the two groups).The experimental group was conducted with groupcounseling and the control group received no treatment. The paper analysis the effect of group counselingwith combining the data and self-assessment of experimental group after the experiment and investigatesthe role of improving adaptation of group counseling in improving the adaptation of freshmen from otherprovinces.The results showed that: First, the adaption of the provincial college freshmen has significant differenceswith college freshmen from other provinces in interpersonal relationship adaptation, study adaptation,campus adaptation, satisfaction and overall results(p<0.05) and no significant differences in careeradaptation, emotion adjustment, self-adaptation. Second, the experiment group improved significantly infactors of Self-adaptation and satisfaction (p<0.05), the experiment group improved much significantly infactors of interpersonal relationship adaptation, study adaptation, career adaptation, emotionadjustment(p<0.01),moreover, the group enhanced extremely remarkably in factors of overall results andcampus adaptation (p<0.001). Third, The posttest scores of experimental group and adjective group weresignificantly different in each dimension of adaptation Scale. the experiment group improved significantlyin factors of Self-adaptation(p<0.05),much significantly in factors of interpersonal relationship adaptation, campus adaptation, career adaptation(p<0.01), extremely significantly in factors of study adaptation,emotion adjustment, satisfaction and overall results(p<0.001).Fourth, posttest results of adjective groupshowed difference from forward result in campus adaptation much significantly(p<0.01).The results showed that group counseling does well in promoting the adaptability of freshmen from otherprovinces to college life, especially in study adaptation, emotion adjustment, satisfaction. For making groupcounseling play a role in promoting the adaptation of freshmen from other provinces, it is necessary tocreate group counseling theory, abundant the form of group counseling and combine the group counselingof freshmen with education work together efficiently.
