The core of American interest is global hegemony. American government pushed forward with a series of policies, like "Monroe Declaration" and "Open Door Policy". Though it was not in the rank of the world's tops at that time, it relied on naval superiority in order to consist with powers. After the first world war, the power structure centered in European countries had been changed. Afterwards, america became one of the great powers and began to participate in the management of world affairs. Until the collapse of the Soviet Union, the US, in some sense, could be called the only hegemonic country in the world. It is obvious that US targeted at becoming the hegemonic country all though. However, its international strategy is not invariable based on this target. In terms of the protean configuration of the world power and the rival strength, the government made the adjustment constantly. In the respect of the strategic means, besides the military subjugation and cultrual express, international mechanism is gradually adopted by hegemonic country in the new period. So Amercian strategic adjustment was provided with the strong flexibility.In the new situation, the American hegemony has to face new challenge. In the long run, the United States is still prepare to defend its global hegemony. However, the multiplicity of influencial regional actors and growing number of terrorist groups means less dominant power for US to call the shots. These have become the competitive challenges in new era. In view of present situation and the judgement of academics and institutions of the United States, the paper seeks to analyse future development of American international strategy.This paper is divided into five parts. The first part is the introductory remarks, introducing the purpose of the paper and summing up the study of domestic and foreign scholars. The second part is about the brief analysis of compositon of American international strategy, including the guiding ideology, the interests of the state and strategic means. And it draws a conclusion that American international strategy is consisted with hegemony goal. The third part maintains a review of the process of strategic adjustment from two stages. The fourth part focuses on factors which causes changes of American international strategy. The fifth part briefly analyses the development of American international strategy in the future through several major influencial factors.
