It is one of our Party's consistent strategies to pay much attention to issues related to people of rural areas in China. In this new era, the urbanization we are promoting is, without doubt, a significant historical task to meet the demands in the economic and social development of urban areas. However, those people who have lost land in the process of urbanization are marginalized because of the extension of land contract period, unfairness in land contract threshold and limitation in land readjustment. Without land, they have neither relevant rights. Despite the promotion in economic development by the construction of new countryside, people in rural areas without land are suffering from many problems and hardship in life. Therefore, it is helpful to stabilize the sustainable economic development in rural and urban areas and to build a harmonious socialism countryside to carry out a systematic and theoretical study onlandless farmers in the process of urbanization.The author is to study the survival plight and protection system of the landless farmers in the process of urbanization with this paper which consists of four parts .As an introduction, the first part is to define the study objects and concepts, to analyse the purpose, meaning and the domestic study status, and to sum up the main methods.In the second part, the constitution of landless farmers are stated with coastal areas of Shandong Province as an example. The difference between landless farmers and farmers who have lost land and industry workers is pointed out. The third chapter makes an analysis on the causes from the prospective of adjustment land contract law and system.In the third part, the author stated the current living status of landless farmers and the governmental research accordingly in the process of urbanization. The fourth chapter is to analyse their income constitution and social protection and the difficulties they are confronting when adapting themselves to urban lifestyle. Moreover, the main social problems which may be caused by landless farmers are put forward. Chapter 5 refers to the systematical protection of landless farmers and puts forward some practical experience from foreign countries. Therefore, reasonable suggestions regarding how to improve the living circumstance of landless farmers and even overcome difficulties in their life are summarized as reference for a more stable urbanization.The fourth part, where parts above are concluded, makes a prospect over the development trend of landless farmers in the process of urbanization, as a summative part of this paper.
