From the emergence of the State, and the consideration of power as a form of organization, the concept of foreign policy has been very difficult to define. It has been even more difficult to differentiate the activities undertaken by States and more than that, it has been difficult to decide within a State, what foreign policy to followed and that such interference should have internal decisions taken by governors, who are representatives of people's "national interest", but usually only a small class who controls this point and represents only individual interests.There is broad consensus that Chile's foreign policy faces a crisis period. This situation is part of a sharp deterioration in the international image of Chile. Some efforts made have been unsuccessful.There are some unsolved issues in this important dimension of national activity, among them we can find: a) those derived from the type of leadership of our diplomacy, and functional difficulties in the process that would "formulate foreign policy and diplomatic implementation"; and b) those related to the choice of an appropriate basic foreign policy orientation.Moreover, increasing competition in the globalization compels States to build better strategies to address the evolution of the capricious world markets.The book The Art of War by Sun Tzu, despite being over two thousand years old, is a bastion of suggestions for the formulation of strategies.This paper aims to present mainly through a qualitative study, the challenges of Chilean foreign policy and how it may relate to the work of General Sun Tzu.?...
