On The Role Of Technological Innovation In China's Peaceful Rise

China's peaceful rise is an organic combination of the subjective desire of the Chinese nation and the objective conditions. It also conforms to the trend of historical development and the common interest of peoples of the world. If stability is a prerequisite for a peaceful rise and opportunities provide the condition, then technological innovation is the fundamental of the rise. The rise of major powers in the world since the middle of the 19th Century tells us an irrefutable fact that technological innovation has always been an inexhaustible driving force behind the rise and leap-forward growth of a nation. Relying on technological innovation to sustain and safeguard China's peaceful rise is an unprecedented great undertaking that will not only promote human civilization, but also peace and progress in the world.This paper adopts a few analysis and synthesis tools including document analysis, historical analysis, comparative analysis and other research methods. Analysis is conducted from the theoretical and historical points of view, and through an integrated examination of theories of international relations of each school and the role technological innovation has played in the rise of developed countries in modern history. It is therefore concluded that technological innovation is not necessarily synonymous with the peaceful rise of a nation, although it is the fundamental of a peaceful rise of a nation. But it is certain that with the increase of the integrated strength of the nation, China will rise as an influential powerhouse in the world. Confronted with complicated and varied international competitions caused by the economic, scientific and technological globalization process, the increasingly severe pressure from population explosion, resource and environmental crises, China now needs more support from technological innovation than any other countries in any other times to guarantee its peaceful rise. This paper aims at providing available theoretical consultation to decision makers in internal affairs and diplomatic fields in China through studying the role technological innovation plays in the peaceful rise of China. It will also be helpful in education of Chinese citizens in international politics.
