From Theory Of Modernity To "the Third Way"

Since the 1990s, Giddens'"The Third Way" caused the wide attention of scholars at home and abroad. At first, Domestic scholars study about Giddnes' theory for general introduction. With it, special subject research on his theory emerges. However domestic scholars are lack of overall research on internal logic, social background, ideological origin, especially the essence and the practical significance of Giddens'theory.Beginning from the modernity theory by Giddens, This paper attempts to discuss the intrinsic logical organization of Giddens'modernity theory and "the third way",and to represent the social background, the ideological origin, and to inquire into the essence of the theory, then to discuss the practical significance of studying his theory based on this discussion.This article argues that the Giddens'theory contains mainly "the modernity theory" and "the third way". "Modernity theory" is the fundamental theory of "The third way" The essence of "the third way" is that, basing on the specific understanding about the modernity theory; basing on the analysis and the development of "tradition social democracy" and "new liberalism"; advances the governing theory which adapts to changing highly society. This article argues that combing intrinsic logic,then revealing the essence of Giddens'theory.This has significance of direct enlightenment on assuring the development process of contemporary society;on understanding the policy changing of contemporary western political party; on impelling the Marxism theory, as well as on advancing our country modernization process.
