A Research On Martin Buber And His Zionism

Zionism is one of Jews′political campaigns , which aim is going back the Palestine and building their own country. In the end of the 19th century, the movement of Zionism, as a token of national awareness, found its great resonance among Jews all over the world. As time went on, the Zionism grew fast, and its fame popularity and status in the world were more and more known. At the same time, different viewpoints of the way and the aim of the Zionism appeared in the Zionism, for example: political Zionism, spiritual Zionism, religious Zionism, revisionist Zionism, synthetic Zionism and so on.Martin Buber is an important person in the history of the Jewry. Buber had been a Zionist during his university, and attended the World Zionism Congress several times. At the start of his Zionist period, Buber did not agree with Herzl who was the leader of the Zionism and the chairman of the World Zionism Congress. On the contrary, Buber appreciated Ahad Ham who was a well-known delegate of the spiritual Zionism. So Buber became a member of the spiritual Zionism. Because Buber had deep foresight, he understood the importance of the Arab question to the Zionism early. Consequently Buber developed his bi-nationalism. Buber′s spiritual Zionism earlier and his bi-nationalism later were two the most important sections of his Zionism. In the history of the Zionism, the Zionism of Martin Buber was the one and only, and occupied a large position in the heart of the Jews. So a study of Buber′s ideas and practice is a meaningful discussion on Jewish history and Zionism history.This dissertation is divided into four parts to introduce the thinking and practice of Martin Buber′s Zionism. The first chapter lays stress on the background of Martin Buber′s Zionism. Several factors lead to the appearing of Buer′s Zionism. Family education, social reality, school education and so on lay the foundation of Buber′s Zionism. Especially the rising and developing of the Zionism Movement provided with a sound precondition for his carrying out Zionist activity and the final formation of his characteristic Zionism. The second chapter focuses on the instructions of Buber′s Zionism. Buber′s spiritual Zionism and bi-nationalism make up to the Buber′s Zionism. This dissertation will discuss both these two parts. The research object of the third chapter is the practice of Buber′s Zionism.. This chapter is organized by the time order in order to deepening our understanding of this part. At the last chapter, I try to evaluate Buber′s Zionism. I will analyse the reasons why Buber changed his theory of Zionism, sum up the characteristics of Buber′s Zionism and heckle the influence to the World Zionism Movement of Buber′s Zionism.
