The Study On Mencius' Morality Idea And Today's Construction Of Officials' Morality

At the present time, Chinese society has been in the period of transition. Many people are affected by widespread loss of faith and moral imbalance, including the officials. Although the majority of the officials have higher moral qualities, there are still a few whose ideals, beliefs and moral concepts serious disordered, triggering "moral decline" and the negative spread of corruption. This directly affects the image of the Party and the State, destroys the relationship between officials and people, wavers people's belief on the Party, ruins the social morality.Hence, it is imperative to strengthen the construction of the officials'morality at the present time. A abundant of moral ideas are involved in our Chinese traditional culture, which supply a reference for the modern world. At the basis of his theory of original goodness of human nature, Mencius set forth systematically his moral thoughts of benevolence, righteousness, etiquette and wisdom, and set up a kind of perfect moral cultivation theory. Mencius'theory still plays a positive role in improving our present construction of officials'morality.This article could be divided into four chapters except the introduction and the peroration.The first chapter, the writer start with the formation background and main purpose of Mencius's moral thought. After we finish analyzing the social and family background of its formation, we will have a much deeper understanding of his shaping of ideal human characteristics and foundation of the gist which is to realize the moral thought of ideal society.The second chapter illustrates the theory foundation of Mencius'moral thought from two dimensions of the theory of original goodness of human nature and the theory of destiny. Mencius established his own perfect morality theory based on the theory of original goodness of human nature.The third chapter is mainly about the classification and summary of Mencius'theory, with the concrete four contents,"benevolence, righteousness, etiquette and wisdom."The writer does an impersonal analysis on its way of realization on basis ofthe four contents, providing a reference for China's present construction of officials'morality.The fourth chapter is the most important one in this article, which annotates the moral thoughts with modern perspective on the basis of searching and analyzing. We can see that Mencius'moral thoughts play a positive role in the construction of our present officials'morality. Mencius'thought of benevolence can help officials build up their opinions of loving people and working for people; Mencius'thought of righteousness can help officials build up their opinions of incorruptness; Mencius's thought of etiquette can help officials build up heir opinions of civilized administration; Mencius'wisdom can help officials build up their opinion of shame and glory. Moreover, Mencius'ways of realization of morality by the social enlightenment, environment edification and self-discipline also supply a reference for our present construction of official morality.
