With the deep evolvement of new class innovation, a class teaching transformation aiming at enhancing class teaching effects, concentrating on constructing an independent, mutual aid and learning class teaching mode is carrying out all around China. This paper is just based on this background, and mainly studies the practices and applications of group cooperative learning in Grade 8 English class.Group cooperative learning is one of the teaching strategies adopted in the class teaching reform. Cooperative learning has sprung up in America since the early age of 1970s, and is a creative and effective teaching theory and strategy which has substantial progresses during the mid 1970s and the mid 1980s. It is one of the contemporary mainstream teaching theories and strategies, and is honored as "the most important and successful teaching innovation in the recent years."This paper is based on the relevant theories---constructivism theory, cognitive theory and social correlative theory to conduct experiments and researches according to the physical and psychological features of Grade 8 students and the present teaching situation of English class. The following questions are mainly studied:1. How does the author design the different class types of Grade 8 English class in the guidance of the cooperative learning theory?2. Can this design arouse students' interests and enthusiasm in learning English?3. Whether does the students' final testing prove the effectiveness of cooperative learning?This paper is composed of five parts like the following:Chapter 1 introduces the background of the research, the latest findings at home and abroad, and the significance of the research; Chapter 2 provides a comprehensive literature review on the theoretical basis of cooperative learning and the feasibility of the study; Chapter 3 is the research methodology which especially explains the application of group cooperative learning in different Grade 8 English classes; Chapter 4 presents data analysis and the discussion about the results trying to verify the points mentioned in the preceding chapters; Chapter 5 concludes the major findings of the research and puts forward a couple of suggestions for further research.During the five months, through the following researches on 85 students in Class 1 and 2, Grade 8 from No.2 Middle School of Dalian Development Zone, and with the relevant information collected from pre-test and after-test, questionnaires, and interviews, and with the relevant data calculated by software Spss13.0, the author makes a penetrated analysis. The conclusions are that the teaching mode of cooperative learning in Grade 8 English teaching makes students' study attitudes positive, and the English learning effects are obviously better. Besides, students' group and teamwork awareness are obviously stronger.
