Along with the advancement of new course reform in China, the country has carried out a new teaching reform, which aims at improving the teaching effect as the fundamental purpose, to build independent and mutual learning class as the core. Based on such background, this research is committed to the practices and applications of cooperative learning in English class of Grade4in primary school.Cooperative learning is based on group cooperation as the basic form, making the use of the interaction of every kind of factors of teaching systematically, each with students of different levels of ability, use a variety of learning activities to impeove their understanding of a subject. Cooperative learning encourages students to work together in the interests of the collective and individual, and to achieve their ideal in the process of a common task. At present, cooperative learning as a kind of advanced teaching methods has been increasingly applied to English class in which the students are regarded as the main body of the class. It becomes a kind of important breakthrough and supplement to the traditional teaching.Based on the related theory of cooperative learning, according to the present situation and characteristics of the fourth grade pupils’ learning, this paper mainly studies the following two questions:1. In the primary school, can cooperative learning improve the students’ learning attitude in learning English?2. In primary school, can cooperative learning improve students’ academic achievement in English learning?This thesis is divided into five parts, the first part briefly introduces the research background, research purpose and meaning; The second part is literature review part, mainly expounds the related theory of cooperative learning, at the same time points out the main breakthrough point of this paper; The third part introduces the experimental hypothesis, object, method, process, and the specific application and practice of English class in grade four of primary school; The fourth part is the result and analysis of the experiment, which is collected from further detailed discussion and analysis; The fifth part is the conclusion part of the research, summarizes the main findings of the study, the existing problems and direction and inspiration for future research.The research object of this article is the two classes of grade four in Gangdu Primary School in Anshan, Class5, as the experimental class,is taught with cooperative learning method; Class6,as the comparative class, is taught with the traditional teaching method. After16weeks of empirical research, the author comes to the following conclusions:1. Compared with the control class, the students’ academic achievement of the experimental class increased slightly2. Through cooperative learning, the students in experimental class became more positive in English learning than the other class.
