English teaching has been one of the school characteristics of the Experimental School Attached to Sichuan Normal University.The school starts English courses since grade 1,and the textbooks are the original English picture book Good English series 1-6.T o implement curriculum reform plan,im prove the English teaching,in recent years,school leaders ha ve been advocating teachers to enhan ce students’ learning interest through cooperative learning.However the fact was not satisfying.Teachers need to learn cooperative learning theories further,and the way of applying cooperative learning in class remains to be explored.The present research is a case study aiming at finding out the effective ways of conducting cooperative learning,and improving students’ learning interest.The data was collected through questionnaire and interview.The research questions are as follow:1)What’s the curren t situation of the grade-four pupils’ learning interest and cooperative learning?2)Can cooperative learning significantly enhance the students’ learning interest in the experimental class?3)What cooperative activities are appr oved by the pupils in the experim ental class? Why?The results of the research shows that considering the cost of ti me,students’ limited autonomy and the difficulty of managing class,cooperative learning hasn’ t be frequently applied,ins tead it was the tradition al way of t eaching which played an important role in daily teaching,which asked for students to follo w the teacher independently;It is the traditional way of teaching that dominates the classes where the teacher occupies most of the time teaching the students what to do,what not to do and the students just follow them.The author conducted pretest-experiment-post-test,and managed to find that before the teach ing experiment,the interes t level of the experimental class and control class were alike.However,after the teaching experiment,the interest level of experim ental class was obviously im proved than the control group.It is concluded that coope rative learning could significantly enhance students’ learning interest.The most popular cooperative learning activities to students are: jigsaw reading,role-pla y,topic discussion,words sp elling,competing as a group and learning strategies exchange.The reason why students like these activities is tha t they have superiorities like competitiveness,cooperation,situationality and so on.
