Local knowledge is specific information system, exclusive of a universal knowledge, and it also means a kind of collective values formed in historical periods of a specific region, which then develops and gets the defense in a specific context. Therefore, it endows with inner self-sufficient and exclusive but adaptable qualities. The culture of poverty is a cultural and psychological disposition that originates from specific context and constructs the basic value system. It is the spiritual core of local knowledge in poverty-stricken areas, and is severed as basic values to guide and maintain the survival and development of local knowledge.However, mining exploitation belongs to other knowledge systems. Besides, along with the nation's pursuit of poverty reduction in the poverty-stricken regions, the stable structure of the local knowledge are then destroyed consequently through the elimination of culture of poverty which is the spiritual core of local knowledge.Based on the case study of DaXing Village, the paper analyzes the destruction of the local knowledge of Yi ethnic group in Gejiu caused by the mining exploitation, and reveals how the mining exploitation breaking geographical, communication and social boundaries to limit and damage of the social environment and local knowledge of the Yi ethnic group. Meanwhile, because of the pursuit of economic interests and intervention of the power-discourse, persistence of self-identity in the local knowledge is weakened, and then cultural self-awareness of the people in the social environment also eliminated.The change of local knowledge and the destruction of the culture of poverty are due to the radical changes of social environment and the environment cognition, and then lead to the damage of local characteristics, historical continuity and cultural integrality, which becomes completely fragmented and distorted.This paper also points out, concerning the protection of local knowledge, much more importance are attached to the protection of the tangible aspects or forms of local knowledge, and the intangible and spiritual aspects are neglected, resulting in deviation from the defined objectives. Coupled with the introduction commercial development, the continuity and integrality of local knowledge fragmented and distorted even further.
