Poverty is always the one of the main problems which perplexes the human beings. Human beings have come to the era of knowledge economy in 21st century, and the new features and representative forms of the problem of poverty has emerged. In this era, the contribution of knowledge and education which determines knowledge has become greater, and knowledge has become the determinant of the development of economy and society. So it can be concluded that the knowledge poverty is the source of all kinds of the poverty in the era of knowledge economy. The writer has found that a large number of people are still under the conditions of poverty; they are isolated from the modernization and opening even become"the laggers"and"the brinkmen"excluded from the society. It is obvious that knowledge poverty has become the most serious challenge of the development of our country; the knowledge resource is badly-off in the areas of poverty and also the most important factor of restricting the development. Thus, the strategy of eliminating poverty should make a shift from focusing simply on income poverty to knowledge poverty.The thesis analyzes the problem of poverty of China thoroughly and systematically. It consists of four parts:Part I:Introduce the meaning of poverty and knowledge poverty; the consequences of knowledge poverty, i.e., domino offect of knowledge poverty; the relations between knowledge poverty and other kinds of poverty.Part II:Conclude the features of knowledge poverty from analyzing the status quo of knowledge poverty in China. Starting from the meaning of knowledge poverty and on the basis of the practical representation and features of it in China, the writer demarcates the standards of knowledge poverty depending on the correlative educational policy of China and the world, which lays the scientific foundation of eliminating poverty by education.Part III:Analyze the reasons of knowledge poverty at the aspects of economy, value orientation and system. Then, probe into the effect on society of the generational transference of knowledge poverty and the other kinds of poverty which are both brought by knowledge poverty.Part IV:On the basis of analysis in former parts, the thesis points out that the core of knowledge poverty rests with the lack of education. Thus, the fundamentality of solving the problem is education. In reality, many people have not yet changed the living status of poverty and many have become poorer due to education. To aim at the issue, the thesis analyzes thoroughly many problems from the educational point of view, such as the problem of inaccuracy of choosing the teaching objects, inappropriateness of teaching methods, teaching contents deviating from practicality and the warp of value orientation. Moreover, it brings forward several strategies and suggestions to the problems which are expected to develop effectively the educational activities and to help education eliminate poverty.
