Rhythmic gymnastics, as a sport characterized by elegance, is strict with the athletes in their body shape. The absence of graceful movements will largely reduce its value. The artistic quality of the routine movements and accuracy of difficult movements, and movement elegance are all visually displayed by the body shape of the athletes. The analysis of the body shape of Chinese high-level rhythmic gymnastics athletes is directly related to the cultivation of future rhythmic gymnastics talents and the event results. Being an essential reference before the athletes receive training and one of the most important factors predicting the maximal exercise potential of the athletes, body shape plays a significant role in the field of competitive sports training field, especially in the primary athlete selection process. This thesis attempts to make up for the deficiency of athletes selection concerning body shape through the comparison between the body shape indicators of Chinese high-level gymnastic athletes and that of Chinese female ballet dancers and European excellent gymnastic athletes by taking the high-level rhythmic gymnastic athletes (born in 1991-1996) as the research objects and using the methods of literature review, measurement, expert interview, mathematical statistics, and induction analysis.By first testing the height, weight, sitting height, arm length, chest circumference, waistline, hip circumference, thigh circumference, and the abdomen crease thickness of Chinese rhythmic gymnastic athletes and Chinese female ballet dancers, and then referring to and downloading the age, height, weight, and Quetelet index of the European gymnastic athletes from International Sports Federations website and European Sport Events websites, the study observes: first, three body shape indicators of Chinese gymnastic athletes, namely, height, sitting height, arm length, are inferior to those of the female ballet dancers and there exists remarkable distinction. Second, the rest six indicators of Chinese rhythmic gymnastic athletes, namely, chest circumference, waistline, hip circumference, thigh circumference, and the abdomen crease thickness, are superior to those of Chinese female ballet dancers, but the distinction is not notable. Third, the average height of Chinese gymnastic athletes born in 1991-1994 is lower than that of the European gymnastic athletes at the same age, while the average height of Chinese gymnastic athletes born in 1995-1996 is higher than that of the European gymnastic athletes at the same age, but the height index distinction is not remarkable. Fourth, the average Quetelet indexes of the athletes born in 1991, 1992, 1993, and 1995 are inferior to those of the European athletes at the same age, remarkable distinction existing only between the athletes born in 1995. The average Quetelet indexes of the athletes born in 1994 and 1996 are superior to those of their European peers and the distinction is very remarkable.
