Emotional education is an integral part of the educational process; it enables the educated to receive education during a entertaining environment so as to improve the effectiveness of ideological and political education. Currently, the scholars mostly confine to classroom teaching, but few are involved in the emotional education in the ideological and political education. Additionally, affected by the "intellectualistic education", the ideological and political education emphasizes the theoretical knowledge too much and ignores the emotional education. College students are a special education group whose acceptance is strong and emotional tendency is very obvious. Their emotions feature diversified and forceful. Therefore, valuing and developing the status and functions of emotional education in the process of ideological and political education as well as positively exploring the inner laws obeyed by emotional education of ideological and political education will the effectiveness of ideological and political education.This article is divided into three parts:The first part includes the definitions of the emotion, the emotional education, and the emotional education in ideological and political education, introduces the characteristics of emotional education as well as the main content of emotional education in ideological and political education, and makes sure that the contemporary emotional education is a unity of humanities and natural sciences, a unity of reality and transcendent, and a unity of adaptability and subjectivity. The emotional education is important for improving the effectiveness of ideological and political education. It will not only help strengthen sense of trust between the educators and the educated and motivate students'source of learning, but also help make up humane care lack of contemporary higher education and contribute to the smooth process of aesthetic education.The second part sums up the experiences gained in emotional education in the ideological and political education which mainly includes the achievements of emotional education in the ideological and political theory courses in universities so as to guide students to appreciate the beauty, feel the beauty and cultivate students' lofty emotions, to improve college students'level of ideological and political awareness and emotional literacy, and to promote a good teacher-student relationship. In addition to, a series of problems during the emotional education's injection into the ideological and political education are elaborated, for instance, college students' needs for emotional education are neglected because of the impact of "intellectualistic education", and so the importance of the emotional education cannot be realized in the ideological and political education and so on. Finally, it analyzes the reasons for the lack of the emotional education in college students' ideological and political education.The third part, supported by above-mentioned theory, explores emotional education principles and approaches in college students' ideological and political education. Five ways to explore emotional education in college students' ideological and political education are interpreted in this part, including building emotional education platform in a variety of ways, emotional education in ideological and political education theory teaching, daily management of ideological and political education, and practical means of emotional and emotional education in the campus culture.
