The informationization of social life and economic globalization make English increasingly important. However, secondary vocational school students are found less interested in learning English, which is believed to be effected by their poor performance in English learning back in their junior-high-shool days, so teachers in vocational schools find it urgent to carry out researches aimed at a smooth transition in English-teaching from junior high school to vocational school so as to help the students improve their interest, and thus achieve more in English learning. The present paper took 89 first-year students in Rugao Vocational Education Center School of Jiangsu Province as subjects and completed an empirical study on transition-based English teaching by means of questionnaire survey, test, case study and training experiment. The results show that a transition-based teaching focusing on well-accommodated teaching materials, teaching methods, learning methods, evaluation practices, affective factors and the teacher's strong awareness of transition-based classroom teaching can contribute to an overall progress among students, help them learn more effectively, and build up more confidence in learning English. The conclusion is that it is of great practical significance to accomplish a smooth transition from junior high school to the first-year vocational school English teaching, which is the key to the 3-year healthy English teaching in vocational schools, and hopefully, the study does provide some first-hand help to the teachers in these schools.
