Reading is an important cultural activities, which is playing a vitally important role in learning, working, society and economy for the youth. The higher level of reading can make the students to be a person with strict and independent thought and carry on the future work. So training the reading skills and methods is one of the main aids of English reading teaching. Cooperative learning is initiated as one of the learning styles in curriculum reform. This reading teaching method which improves the students'reading comprehension by making the students taking part in the cooperative activities, is an effective measure in training the reading comprehension, expanding the new words, improving the cooperation among the students.Recently, this teaching method is widely used in English teaching, which caused some problems. Paper investigates and analyzes the natural state of cooperative learning in teaching, by questionnaires and observations, and obtains a more detailed and reliable data and information, in order to promote to carry out and implement cooperative learning more effectively. First, it briefly introduces the contents and views of the paper by introducing the importance of the cooperative reading ability and the present condition of the cooperative reading teaching. Then focusing on the content of cooperative learning, the basic elements of cooperative learning, the theoretical foundation for cooperative learning, the basic steps of cooperative learning, the main value and misunderstanding of cooperative learning. Mainly investigates on the students of Grade5 and Grade6 by questionnaires and observations, and based on the data analyzes, to summarize the problems of cooperative reading teaching. Then summarize the tactics of cooperative reading in classes, the habits of cooperative reading, extending cooperative reading and evaluation. At the end of the article, summarizes the issues and direction in the cooperative learning.
