Reading is one of the most important skills for English learners and how to improve the reading comprehension of the learners remains the focus in foreign language instruction. As the main way to input language learning, reading plays an important part in listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. A lot of researches show that appropriate training or instruction for learners in reading strategies can not only improve the students'reading ability, but also foster the learners'autonomous learning ability. Based on this ideal, this paper studies how to give reading-strategy introduction to Slow-learners in English in high school and manage to illustrate whether it can improve the achievement and level of their reading through reading-strategy introduction with Integrating both qualitative approach and quantitative approach.The whole paper consists of introduction, literature review, and theories of research, investigation of the status quo, strategy instruction and conclusion. In the part of introduction, this paper mainly introduces the background of the study and the structure of this thesis. The first chapter is the literature review. In this part, the author proposes the significance of this study based on a review of the relevant literature. The second part main introduces the theories of this research. Chapter III and IV is the main part of this thesis. The author finds out the similarities and differences between the more successful learners and the slow learners in the use of reading strategies based on an investigation of the use of reading strategies of students in Senior II at Xianyang Zhouling middle school in Weicheng District in Xianyang City, in which the author sums up the characteristics and shortcomings of the slow learners in use of reading strategies. And on the basis of this, the plan of the reading-strategy introduction is designed to help the slow learners out of the plight. In order to identify the effectiveness of this program, using the case-study approach, this study selects 21 subjects who are slow learners to be trained on reading strategies for one-semester. The results show that reading-strategy instruction,to a certain extent, not only improves the score and level of reading but also enhances students' awareness of strategy. In addition, this study also proves that reading-strategy instruction has a positive impact on slow learners to study English. Last part is the conclusion of this thesis which mainly points out the enlightenment for English teaching in high school and limitations of this research.
