With the development of economy and people's environment-protecting awareness improving, more and more schools install environmental lectures. Nowadays, the environmental education in China is characterized mainly by tuitions, and only a small number of schools associate tuitions with some activities. The way they adopt usually enables students to master environmental knowledge very well; however, the students'environmental knowledge level proves to be obviously higher than their level of environmental behavior as well as participating awareness, thus, this passive teach-and-learn method cannot really transform environmental knowledge into environmental consciousness. As a matter of fact, it is their experiences in person that students'environmental consciousness comes from. This subject refers to the permeation of inquiry teaching method in environmental education at senior high schools and aims to enrich senior high school students'practical experiences by using familiar surroundings as teaching resources and grounds. Therefore, as educational media, their personal experiences in environment may enable them to be more perceptive and concerned about environment from direct interaction with environment. In addition, this teaching method can strengthen their skills in information collecting and analyzing, team working and so on.The issue elaborates the definitions of environment, environmental education and practical research, besides, it also attach significance to environmental education, which contains three parts:the improvement of students'awareness related to environmental education; strengthening their environmental skills through carrying out environmental education; environmental education is an important part in education for all-round development. The theoretical basis of this study was derived from of cognitive structuring theories, constructivism, student-centered educational theories, Dewey teaching thought and other relevant theories.Taking account of the situation of the environment protection in the target school and area and the state of the target students'environmental consciousness as well as the existing conditions of the school laboratory equipment, the researcher designed and implemented six inquiry activity plans with regard to environmental education like " A study on the pollution of Tai Lake from experiments and related preventive measures", " An inquisitive learning about the pollution of vehicle exhaust", "An investigative study on the preparation facilities de-ionized water on laboratory test", " An inquisitive learning about the measuring contents of SO2 in air " etc. At the same time, all these practical plans were carried out in senior high students under the instruction of the researcher.Analysis of the data and other related materials collected from practice has also revealed that it is feasible to adopt inquiry-teaching method in environmental education at senior high schools. Students were highly interested in the activities, which contain:autonomic learning, approaches to cooperation, exploratory behavior. And their abilities in finding, raising and solving practical environmental problems were advanced to a great extent. Learning basic knowledge and skills of environmental science helped to raise their environmental awareness. Furthermore, after the conclusion of these activities, the researcher reflected on the necessity and importance of establishing environmental education system and sound corresponding evaluation system. In addition, it is necessary to improve the quality of the teachers. What's more, the researcher discussed ways to increase efficiency and guarantee essential curriculum resources of environmental education, and the way of establishing perfect evaluation system for environmental education.
