Scientific literacy refers to the scientific knowledge of a person, the scientific spirit and thought he has, and his ability of dealing with various affairs using scientific method. Scientific literacy of high level is necessary for qualified talents. In March 2006, the State Council formulated and implemented the《The Action Program Outline of National Scientific Literacy》, indicated four types of key crowd in our country in the construction of scientific literacy: minors, farmers, urban laboring population, officials and civil servants. Many scientific literacy survey showed that farmers' scientific literacy is at the lowest level in these four groups. Contrarily, the population of peasants is the largest in these groups. According to the results of the fifth population census, rural population in our country is 740 million, accounts for 57.01% of the whole country. That is very large. Therefore, striving to improve farmers' scientific literacy is an important work of raising the national scientific literacy.Science TV program which agricultural science TV program belongs to is an important way to improve citizen scientific literacy. The contents of agricultural science TV program are agriculture, rural areas and farmers. It aims in serving farmers and considers farmers' characteristics and needs, so it is easy to be accepted by them. Therefore, improving farmers' scientific literacy by agricultural science TV program is very appropriate. On the basis of decomposing the connotation of farmers'scientific literacy, combining with the current of agricultural science TV program in our country, this research put forwards specific strategies of using agricultural science TV program to improve farmers' scientific literacy. Firstly, we should increase the quantity of agricultural science TV program. Each region should add agricultural television station or agricultural channel, and increase broadcasting time of the programs, providing adequate choices for the rural viewers about agricultural science TV programs. Secondly, combined with the connotation of farmers'scientific literacy and farmers' actual needs, we should send the right program contents. Meanwhile, we still should try to avoid homogeneity phenomenon of the programs. Again, we should try to rich the representations of agricultural science TV program. Finally, we should to ensure the overall quality of the programs, establish program evaluation system, strengthen the communication among various televisions, present high quality agricultural science TV programs, and promote the ascension of their scientific literacy while providing useful information.
