The article formulates three training strategies that adapt characteristics and lawof development of science and engineering undergraduates through Investing scientificliteracy status of science and engineering undergraduates and researching scientificliteracy training method. Using the STS educational philosophy to cultivate thestudents' basic scientific understanding ability, the ability in using and exploringscientific knowledge, the scientific spirit and independent thinking skills, understandthe relationship between science, technology and society, to improve the overall levelof science and engineering undergraduates' scientific literacy.The article introduces the relative theory of STS education philosophy andscientific literacy, finds out the contact of STS education idea and scientific literacytraining, and proves the feasibility and advantage of using the STS educationalphilosophy to culture scientific literacy of the science and engineering undergraduatefinally summarizes the training strategy of scientific literacy based on STS education.The article states the develop course of STS education, longitudinal comparison:the developing history of the STS educational philosophy; horizontal comparison: thedeveloping situation the STS educational philosophy in China and foreign;summarized characteristics and insufficient development of STS education in China;explains how to make STS education chinesenization.Discuss the connotation of scientific literacy and evaluation criteria. Extended bythe scientific literacy of the public to the scientific literacy of the science andengineering students, extended from the public scientific literacy to the scientificliteracy of the science and engineering students, determines the meaning andcharacteristics of the objects scientific literacy, develops the tri-grade evaluation index system of scientific literacy assessment of science and engineering students.Investigate and analyze the scientific literacy of college students. Found out theexisting problems and influencing factors of science and engineering students'scientific literacy in the survey. View of the existing shortage of the science literacy ofscience and engineering students, the research used STS in scientific literacytraining.STS education philosophy applied to the cultivation of scientific literacy ofscience and engineering students has a distinct advantage by comparing STS teachingwith traditional teaching activities. Then proposes three training strategies based on theresearch: the interesting curriculum strategy, the network platform strategy, scienceand technology, culture system strategy.It proves that cultivate the scientific literacy of science and engineering studentsby using the STS education is feasible and have a greater advantage. I expect that theresult of this paper can be implemented, and constantly improves the founding in theimplementation process, forms integrated STS education theoretical system and makessome contribution to China's science and education.
