It is the first time that the model-teaching method is settled as the knowledge target for high school students, which is included in the Biology Standards (experimental version) of High School issued by Education Ministry in 2003. It means that the model-teaching method in biology course has already caused the concern. However, till now, in practical high school biology course, model-teaching method is not treated with high priority level which it should be, in fact it is even worse. Though there have been already some researches on the model-teaching, their contents are narrow without enough extent, and the application of the method for teaching practice is not detailed on. So it is necessary to do system research on model-teaching in high school biology course.In this article, after comparing the detailed contents in Standards with the ones in the previous one Syllabus, it is obvious that model-teaching is highly valued in Standards than in Syllabus. Next, the differences between the model used in high school biology course and in the scientific research are analyzed. Then, the importance and urgency of model-teaching method which should be used in high school biology course are summarized. And the current status of model-teaching application in high school biology course is briefly described both in our country and abroad. Three major type biology models (physical model, conceptual model and mathematical model) are studied in detailed.For the conclusion, the typical examples for each type are raised, and it is discussed how to build these models and the way how to evaluate.
