With the implementation of reform and opening-up policy, private education in China witnessed rapid development in recent years. Competition is fierce among private universities because of public universities'enlarged enrollment. Besides, lots of foreign educational institutions join in squeezing the living space of private universities. To gain victory in the brutal competition, private university must continue developing, reforming and innovating. In the long run, competition among private universities is the competition for talents, for high-level teachers. Therefore, to sustain development, it is urgent for school administrators to strengthen internal management, to establish reasonable incentive mechanism, to maintain the stability of teachers so as to build the highly-qualified staff. It'll be practically enlightening to establish a set of scientific and practical incentive mechanism for IU University which is making every effort to construct the multiversity.Motivation theory is the center of human resource management. Effective incentive mechanism can stimulate the enthusiasm of the teachers, develop their potentials to the fullest and thus achieve the objectives of both the individual and the collective. This thesis is based on the theory of motivation of human resources management. After reviewing the literature of motivation theory, the thesis analyzes the importance of incentive theory in the private colleges. Its focus is on the incentive mechanism of IU University. By the analysis of the current situation of incentive mechanism in IU University, the thesis tries to look for the main problems involved in the teacher's incentive mechanism and consequently offers some suggestions. Hopefully, through a case study of IU University, the thesis can help to disclose the common problems on the issue of teacher's incentive in private colleges so as to offer a reference for other private universities, especially similar ones in their endeavor to survive and develop.
