| Vocabulary learning plays a very important role in English learning, knowing more effective vocabulary learning strategies can benefit learners vocabulary learning. It is useful for students to master effective vocabulary in order to obtain self-learning ability. The study was conducted in one secondary vocational school in Suzhou so as to find the correlation between vocabulary learning strategies and students'academic achievements, which can help students learn English words suc-cessfully, grasp vocabulary learning strategies effectively, develop students'self-learning ability and promote their learning efficiency.Questionnaire, English vocabulary test and the students'English final-term academic achievements were used in this study to investigate the correlation between the learners English vocabulary cognitive strategies and English learning.Three questions are addressed in this study:(1)For secondary vocational school students, what effects do their English vocabulary learning cognitive strategies have on their English vocabularies?(2)For vocational school students, what effects do their English vocabulary learning cogni-tive strategies have on their English academic achievements?(3)Do high-level students and low-level students have different English vocabulary learning ideas and use different English vocabulary learning strategies?After the study, some major findings are summarized as follows:(1)Among all the vocabulary learning cognitive strategies the secondary vocational school students used, most vocabulary learning cognitive strategies have positive correlation with the students'English vocabulary. Only two strategies have significant correlation with their English vocabulary.(2)Most vocabulary learning cognitive strategies used by the students have positive cor-relation with the students'academic achievements, some of them have significant cor-relation with students'academic achievements in the final-term test.(3)Difference of using cognitive learning strategies of English vocabulary can be found in the study between the high-level students and the low-level students,but only some of them have reached to the significant level.In addition, high-level students use more cognitive learning strategies than low-level students.Based on the findings of the present study, some implications can be found for foreign lan-guage learning and teaching. |
