Research On The Application Of Office Hours System In Colleges Of Jiangxi Province

Office Hours is not only one of the main patterns for student-faculty interactions in Western colleges and universities, but also a generally used teaching tool by faculty members and an integral part of students'learning experiences and out-of-class communication between teachers and students.This research attempts to explore the origination of Office Hours system theory, and summarizes the experience of implementation of Office Hours system in some universities from western countries, Taiwan and mainland of China. And based on the reality of institutions of Jiangxi province, we put forward the application system of Office Hours system, and then use survey interviews to investigate and analyze the present application situation of the Office Hours system in Jiangxi colleges and universities. In addition, we put forward the application principles and preparation of Office Hours system in Jiangxi colleges and universities. Finally, according to the reality of institutions in Jiangxi province, we indicate the specific application strategies of Office Hours. This essay has four main parts.The first part is mainly about background and literature review. By analyzing the Office Hours system from domestic and overseas scholars, we found that Office Hours is a widespread used teaching tool by European and American countries' university faculty. In Taiwan, it has been applied and promoted. Some universities in China's mainland are attempting to apply Office Hours system, and it has reached some achievements. The study of Office Hours system both at home and abroad focuses mainly on two fields:"Regular Office Hours" and "Virtual Office Hours".In second part, the main concepts of Office Hours are defined, as well as the types of Office Hours are categorized. Taking different types of standard in consideration, they can be divided into open and restrictions. ROH and VOH types etc.The third part mainly explores the basis, the current situation and the application problems of Office Hours system in Jiangxi colleges and universities. This study suggests that along with social changes the reality basis for the application of Office Hours system lies in challenges of market economy, merger and division of Jiangxi colleges and universities, student-faculty interactions declined, and strategic choice of Jiangxi colleges and universities. The practice of Office Hours system in universities home and abroad provides reference and valuable experience for Jiangxi colleges and universities. Surveys and interview methods are adopted to analyze the current application status of the system. Research has found that there are problems such as difficulties in conceptual integration, promotion opinion integration, insufficient between teachers and students, poor material and technical conditions, imperfect operation mechanism.The fourth part mainly discusses the specific strategies of Office Hours system application in Jiangxi colleges and universities. This paper has proposed the principle of applying Office Hours system:practical, diversity, student-center, effectiveness. This paper has also proposed the foundation for Office Hours system: theory, public opinion, policy, material. And put forward strategies about application of Office Hours in Jiangxi colleges and universities ranging from conceptual reconstruction to preliminary promotion and marketing;from incentives to wide student-teacher involvement to evaluation on performance and effectiveness.
