In the world, most medical colleges adopt Problem based-learning (PBL), which has been proposed early by a neuropathist Barrows who comes from McMaster University of Toronto, Canada. PBL is mostly applied in medical undergraduate and graduate course, but less applied in medical school. According to the characteristic of student in medical school, we try to combine PBL with traditional model of teaching in the pediatric nurse course in nurse major of grade 2, so that we can explore the feasibility of using PBL in the medical school and provide a new model of teaching for the medical school.In the research, we divide the 267 secondary school students which come from the nurse major of year 2008 and 2009 in the medical school of Kunming Medical College(original Kunming Medical school) into experimental group and compare group. We adopt PBL combined with traditional model of teaching in experimental group and only traditional model of teaching in compare group. After the course, we investigate the teaching effect using questionnaire for the two group students and make the statistical analysis using methods such as test, T test and Mann-Whitney U test for the data from the investigation.During the research, we discover that PBL is a model which is dominant to the students and looking for solving questions by proposing questions, looking up the datum and group discussion. PBL model of teaching regards the process of studying and training the ability of various studying rather than teaching knowledge simply. The experimental group students evaluate PBL model of teaching obviously higher than traditional model of teaching(P<0.05) in some aspects such as increasing study interesting, training creating idea, developing independent ability of study, improving relationship between teachers and students. Though, traditional teaching is better than PBL in some aspects such as definition for teaching goal, knowledge in system, and adaptability for student. Finally we consider that we can adopt PBL in nurse major in medical school is feasible, effective, and propitious to train the nurse who is with high diathesis in practicality and is needed by the times. But some external difficult still exists when we adopt PBL. According to the situation of a country, the situation of a school, the goal and content of the nurse education, the research proposed some suggestion and advice.
