With the development of society and the globalization of economic life, English has become an important tool of foreign communication. The rapid development of the economy in our country puts forward higher request to English talents. But nowadays China's English education status is not promising. Although students have learnt English in senior high school for a few years, the phenomenon of dumb English is still widespread. It is difficult for them to express their thoughts by making sentences, and students' listening and speaking ability is poor.English is a tool which puts emphasis on practicing. The traditional teaching method is dull and lacks vividness, so we should improve various communicative activities of students in class. Pattern practice should be systematic and scientific in accordance with different levels. Teaching methods of English sentence patterns can help students merge their English knowledge into language naturally. It is helpful to improve students' comprehensive abilities. This paper is to deal with the difficulties of English sentence pattern teaching in senior high school from the perspective of Audio-visual method. The research methods include questionnaires, interviews and literature review.This paper is mainly to study the status quo of English sentence patterns in senior high school and the application of Audio-visual method. Aimed at the research of senior high school English sentence pattern teaching, the author has carried out the questionnaire for teachers and the interview for students. The questionnaire mainly involves two aspects: one is the basic survey of teachers; the other is the investigation of the implementation of the sentence pattern teaching. In order to know more about what teachers should pay attention to in the process of the implementation of the sentence pattern teaching from the standpoint of students, the author has interviewed eight students chosen randomly. The interview has three questions, including the students'attitude towards sentence patterns, the difficulties encountered in the implementation of sentence patterns and advice about it. On the basis of the results and the data, the author draws the conclusion and designs case teaching on sentence pattern teaching in process of Audio-visual teaching. The major findings of this study are as follows: sentence pattern teaching is widely applied in daily foreign language teaching and it is helpful to improve students'foreign language ability; teachers encounter some difficulties and problems in sentence pattern teaching, for example: teachers'understanding of sentence pattern teaching is insufficient; the emphasis on the three patterns practice differs and so on; sentence pattern teaching is restricted by many factors; some principles and characteristics of Audio-visual teaching can be applied to sentence pattern teaching, such as: emphasizing the role of language scene; emphasizing content consistency, with whole structure as teaching foundation; learning the basic grammar in practice.
