Reading is a basic way for people to obtain information, study or entertain. If the student owns a perfect reading ability, he will study by himself. What's more, it will lay a solid foundation for his further study. In China, the New National English Curriculum Standard (NECS) (2001) for Middle Schools explicitly stipulates that"promoting the students'reading comprehension ability is one of the most important goals in English teaching. Teachers should try to adopt the task-based language teaching in their reading class."Task-based language teaching (TBLT) as a new teaching approach is prevailed under the background of the communicative language teaching, it emphasizes"learning by dong", and it is a kind of"learner-centered"teaching approach. It requires that teaching activities should be designed according to students'specific needs.According to the investigation, the Tibetan students'reading ability is not ideal recently, the primary reason is because lots of Tibetan English teachers only pay their attention to the language form and ignore the importance of discourse during their teaching process. Based on this situation, the thesis attempts to explore the application of TBLT in Tibetan senior English reading class. To be more specific, this study will apply the framework of TBLT model for Tibetan senior English reading teaching to testify the feasibility and efficiency of TBLT. Meanwhile, the author hopes the present study can help Tibetan senior students master effective reading strategies and improve their reading ability. The author also hopes it can provide certain theoretical and practical inspirations for Tibetan senior English reading teaching. The thesis firstly designed a reading teaching framework suitable for the Tibetan senior students, which is based upon the therory of reading models, second language acquisition, Jane Willis'framework of TBLT and the requirement of the NECS. Then, the author has done experiment in classes 3 & 5, grade 2 of Hezuo No.1 Senior High School from Sep. 2010 to Jan. 2011 to testify its effectiveness. After the experiment, the author has found there are more progress in the experimental class. The results show that TBLT is available and very necessary in TSHS if the teacher designs reasonably according to the Tibetan students'needs and characteristics.
