Learning motivation is one of the most important factors which have a great influence on students'English learning. Students with strong learning motivation will be extremely interested in English learning and take an active part in it while some with low learning motivation will get tired of it. Only when teachers understand students'learning motivation, will they be able to effectively arouse the enthusiasm of students for learning English. Only when teachers have insight into the psychology of the students,understand their internal and external demands,and strengthen the rational and efficient factors,can teachers better teach the knowledge and skills to achieve ideal teaching results. This thesis explores the situation of junior high school students'English learning motivation and differences of different types of their English learning motivation during the specific teaching process and main factors that influence the development of junior high school students'English learning motivation. According to the results,using some incentive theories, the study provides some strategies and methods which can stimulate and foster students'English learning motivation to improve their English achievements.This thesis consists of five parts: The first part discusses the background and significance of the research and introduces the currently main prevalent learning motivation and incentive theories. It also puts forward the research thoughts and methods. The second part is the investigation on some students and analyze the results which show the relationship between the achievements and the learning motivation of Junior High School students. The third part discusses the factors that influence the students'English learning motivation. The fourth part is about how to use some incentive theories to stimulate and foster students'English learning motivation. The last part points out that this thesis is only a tentative study and there still remain some unsolved problems for me to exert more efforts in the future.
