| Non-verbal expression is essential for traditional classroom information transmission. In online courses, non-verbal expression is still able to pass a wealth of information, especially feelings and attitudes, which increase the learners'social presence. In recent years, with the development of technology and therefore the enrichment of communication channels, non-verbal information transmission in online courses is gradually developing. However, it has encountered a number of technical and application problems. The purpose of this study is to explore how to use non-verbal information transmission in online courses, that is, transmission strategies of non-verbal information in online courses, so as to optimize the effects of information transmission in online courses and provide reference for the design, development and application of online courses.The research methods are literature analysis, case studies, comparative analysis and experimental research method and so on. With the above methods and the integration of previous research in the field of communication, especially in the field of education dissemination, this study set up a classification system of non-verbal information for online courses, summed up the ways and channels of non-verbal information transmission in online courses, and discuss the relationship of the types of non-verbal information and transmission channels. On this basis, the study assesses the status of non-verbal information in online courses and investigates the requirements of the non-verbal information in online courses. According to the results of interviews for online teachers and surveys for producers of online courses, this research proposed strategies from three dimensions: learning content, instruction activities and function modules. These strategies shows which types of non-verbal information are applicable and recommended in specific circumstances, and which channels and ways these types are able to be transmitted. |
