As China's new round of basic education curriculum reform, various versions of the secondary school biology textbooks based on the new curriculum are published in succession. No matter which version of biological materials, charts take a large proportion of them. The aim of this study is to analyze the setting intention, classification, characteristics and application of the charts in senior high school biology textbooks, guide teachers to understand the charts, and provide help for the reasonable application of diagrams.First of all, the author analyzes the charts in high school biology textbooks published by People's Education Press, explores the position, setting ideas and advantages of charts in the textbooks. The analysis shows that the number and types of charts in the textbooks have increased, greatly improving the position of charts in the textbooks. The setting of charts reflects the high school biology curriculum's core task, that is, to improve the students'scientific quality of biology, which involves ability, emotional attitude and values, but not the three fragmented or opposition. Therefore, the setting of charts in teaching materials can help students learn the biological knowledge, improve their ability, and develop their emotion, attitude and values, it can also help teachers teach better.The current high school biology textbooks using in schools are under the new curriculum reform.They are new teaching materials, therefore, there are great changes in content design, and there are a lot of new sections in the textbooks. So, the author analyzed the charts in the textbooks deeply from the teaching perspective and classified the graphs again. There are five kinds of charts, information chart, lead-in chart, problem chart, display chart, and demonstrate chart, and the thesis analyzed the characteristic of each chart.Subsequently, the author took a network questionnaire survey for some high school biology teachers in Shijiazhuang. From the survey's result, we can see that, the majority of the teachers recognized that the biological charts take a certain position in the textbooks, and they could use the charts consciously. But many teachers feel confused about how to use the charts in the new textbooks. Therefore, after literature review, deep analysis and asking for advice with an open mind, the author sought out the strategies of using information chart, lead-in chart, problem chart, display chart, and demonstrate chart, then used these strategies in practical teaching. After several revisions, the author extracted representative examples of the class for five types of charts, and then made the effect analysis.Finally, the author drew a conclusion of the research, and made a prospect for it.
