In all areas of human activity, there are many reasons why people do things, and English learning is no exception. All human behaviors have their own motivation, English learning is also a kind of activity, and therefore, it has its own motivation.According to the Jakobovits'research, the main factors which influence the foreign language learning are divided into four types: speech (33%), intelligence (20%), motivation (33%) and other factors (14%). From the research, it is not difficult to find that a student's learning motivation has a prominent function in learning. At domestic, some researchers also carried on a great deal of researches on the language learning motivation. They mainly research which type of the students'motivation has a close relationship with students'English learning? But how close is the relationship of the English learning motivation and the English result? Currently, there are a few researchers who ever research the topic. Only knowing their own learning motivation, can the students of ordinary high school adopt the related methods of foreign language learning? If the students of ordinary high school don't know their own learning motivation, how can they learn English well? In this article, the writer tries to analyze and research the types of the ordinary high school students'English learning motivation. Then she wants to solve several problems as the following.The types of learning motivation in ordinary high school:Through the writers'own investigation, there are three types of learning motivation in ordinary high school, they are the instrumental motivation, cultural motivation and situation motivation. The major one of these motivations is the instrumental motivation which includes achievement motivation, personal development motivation and information media motivation.Because the examination result is the major even the only factor which will determine the students'further learning, such as job opportunities for the future of the students, the "achievement motivation" is widespread in Asian countries and regions, including China, which has made the students create extinsic motivation to meet the demands. Therefore, in ordinary high school, the achievement motivation plays an important role in the English learning.As English teachers, whether we can make our students know their types of English learning motivation before they start to learn English? Through the experiment, we can see that it is possible to make the students realize their own type of English learning motivation by questionnaire, thus, the students can adjust their learning strategies and improve the English learning. It has been proved by the writer's experience.Through the experiment, we can conclude that on the whole, the students'English learning motivation has a strong relationship with their English learning effect. High achievers show great interest in the English language and its culture. They believe that they are capable of learning English well and they have a strong desire to succeed.As English teachers in ordinary high school, we can let the students make a great progress by stimulating and training the motivation of them.
