At present, Autonomous learning ability is a heated topic in educational field, and it is a tendency of the foreign language teaching. With the rapid educational reformation, it is necessary and essential to cultivate high students'autonomous learning abilities.Autonomous learning ability is the ability that students can manage their learning for themselves. This ability isn't innate but acquired through various ways. The principal purpose of the thesis is to explore how to develop students'autonomous learning abilities under the English educational reformation of the high school, and how to make students the masters of their own, and thus help them lay firm foundation for their long-life learning. Many researches on autonomous learning ability have been made in foreign country while in China, there are not so many researches and the research achievements are far from satisfaction.The thesis introduces the concept of autonomous learning ability, and studies its characteristics, various factors affecting autonomous learning ability and learning strategies. Combined with the modern teaching patterns, the thesis puts forward the new teaching patterns to arouse students'learning interests, and improve their autonomous learning abilities. In the experiment, two average classes are taken as the subjects. After one year, we make a preliminary discussion on the experimental results. It is found that students'interests have been aroused,students'good learning habits have been developed and their autonomous learning ability has been improved. So the new teaching pattern is practical.
