Huayao Dai is a branch of the Dai people. Dai people scatter in Xishuangbanna, Dehong, Menglian, Xinping, Yuanjiang and more than thirty counties in Yunnan province, and Huayao Dai live mainly in Yuanjiang and Xinping County. Because of different geographical environment, Dai culture are not the same. For example, Huayao Dai in Damuyu Village, Mosha Township, Xinpin County, Yunnan Province is different from Xishuangbanna and Dehong regions. They do not believe in Buddhism, and always keep their local primitive religious beliefs. In addition, Huayao Dai unique cultural matters can be reflected in its funeral culture.This paper takes Huayao Dai funeral customs as the object in Damuyu Village. The first chapter introduces the basic situation of the Damuyu Village and Huayao Dai soul view, and the second chapter describes historical changes and current situation of the funeral culture, and the third chapter analyzes the ritual process and some offerings, and the fourth chapter focus on the funeral functional analyses, not only the whole social structure but also the individual physiological and social needs.Funeral ceremony as part of the life crisis rites, as Turner said," the moment would be ritualized in all of society, then takes proper attention to make public signs so that stress the individuals or groups significance for the members who are living in the community ". Of course, life crisis rites also belongs to the" rite of passage ", the paper thick describes the funeral ritual process of Huayao Dai and analyze funeral ceremony with the"liminality""communitas" theory. However, all of them serve the functional study eventually.
