The Evaluation Of "Conservation And Development Around Jiaozhou Bay" Strategy Of Qingdao

Cities are the economic core and play a very important part in China's development. Urban management and development are highly emphasized by the government as a comprehensive socioeconomic strategy. Urban management has been practiced and proved to be effective in most cities in China. The thesis uses both case study method and statistic approaches to explain the strategic system of CDJB (Conservation and Development around Jiaozhou Bay) and scientifically evaluate the urban development strategy of Qingdao.The thesis first reviews the origin and progress of urban management theory based on its general principles. With the analysis of urban resources, development strategy and plans, urban management uses the market economic approach to operate the manageable resources, optimize the allocation and maximize the profit in order to increase the economy and improve urban function. By interpretation of the theoretic system of urban development and management, the review laid the foundation for the following evaluation.Then the thesis summarizes the CDJB strategic system, which mainly promotes development dependent on the city core, conservation around Jiaozhou Bay, appropriate urban group layout framework. CDJB aims at developing the bay area into a high-end industry core with livable urban environment in a sustainable way.With the research on the framework, the thesis investigates the mutual characteristics and successful experiences of international cases. The research shows that a natural bay area usually has resource advantage which is vital to trade process, harbor economy, financial and information service. And its natural surroundings benefit the urban ecological construction. Looking back on the urban history of Qingdao, the city's development went through three stages including the"south-north linear"spatial form, the"one loop with two points"peninsula form, and the"three points and a line"community form. All stages focus the development on the bay, which clearly shows the importance of the area. Considering all the elements and conditions, CDJB is the essential choice of strategy for the development in Qingdao.In the end, the thesis use temporal series statistics to observe ten years of urban management performance in Qingdao and the conclusions are: First, it's appropriate to utilize the urban management theory to evaluate the development strategy. Second, CDJB applies well to the developing situation of Qingdao in respond to the environmental needs. Third, CDJB is effective in increasing Qingdao's power in urban competition and accelerates its development. Forth, environmental issue has become the main factor that affects Qingdao's development.The result of the thesis is theoretically important to the urban construction and progress in China, particularly remarkable for future sustainable development of Qingdao.
