With the changes of China's social and economic demand targets, research on the process of natural resources flow has become a new perspective of 21st century's resources science. Meanwhile, this research helps us to keep the major research direction of rational development and utilization of resources. Specifically, besides coal and natural gas, crude oil flow is a primary energy flow on the global or national level. Therefore, upon researching the spatial-temporal process and evolution of crude oil flow, there have been several important significances both in science and in fact, such including to hold the macro situation, to prepare for a depth analysis of its driving mechanism and to play a dominant guiding role of its reasonable management, optimum allocation and sustainable utilization.Because of the current situation of serious imbalance in China's crude oil production-consumption, to be specific, the main oil-producing regions focus on Western and Northern China while the main oil-consuming regions focus on Eastern and Southern China, the basic spatial characteristics of crude oil flow in China is that crude oil flows both from Northern to Southern China and from Western to Eastern China upon a spatial mismatch of crude oil production-consumption. Meanwhile, in the long run, the spatial flow structure of crude oil in China is always changing due to the development of new oil-fields, the abandonment of old oil-fields, the improvement of crude oil transport corridors, reformation of crude oil circulation system and other aspects. This paper takes crude oil flow in China as the research subjects, and takes Provincial-level administrative units as the notes of crude oil flow. Meanwhile, with the methods of literatures-summarization, data-analysis, statistical-analysis and spatial-analysis, this paper discusses the characteristics and law of crude oil flow among different provinces since 1985.There are 6 chapters in this paper. Chapter 1 describes the research background and the regional flows, which come from resource to energy then to crude oil, and the meaning of crude oil flow and the system of research theories for it are discussed in Chapter 1. Besides, Chapter 1 defines the research subjects and then selects five typical years from 1985 to 2009 as the time points. Chapter 2 mainly divides the nodes of crude oil flow into input nodes and output nodes, and then discusses the spatial fractal structure, spatial distribution pattern and size distribution structure of crude oil flow with Zipf law of the rank-size distribution and its analysis of non-scaling range, non-scaling section and Zipf parameters. Chapter 3 further divides the nodes of crude oil flow into three flow function types, as the output center, input center and exchanging center. On that basis, the qualitative analysis in Chapter 3 is done in the fields of the spatial pattern variation structure among source-region system, collection-region system and exchanging-region system. Based on gravity-center model and standard deviational ellipse model of spatial statistics, Chapter 4 approaches the evolution of spatial displacement pattern of crude oil flow in China from a quantitative view. On one hand, with the analysis of the position, the moving direction and speed, and the moving distance and angle of the center of gravity, Chapter 4 discusses the trends in central tendency of spatial distribution pattern of crude oil flow in China. On the other hand, with the analysis of standard deviation ellipse angle and changes in spindle and auxiliary axes, Chapter 4 explores the trends in dispersion of spatial distribution pattern of crude oil flow in China. Chapter 5 selects per capita GDP of each Provincial-level administrative unit as the influence factor. And with the tools of gravity-center model and cross-covariance cloud, this chapter exploringly analyzes the evolution mechanism of the crude oil's flow spatial structure.Chapter 6 summarizes the research findings and points out some related issues that worth further explore.
