| It's well known that fiber optical communication is the major revolution in communication history, since breakthrough of enabling technology in 1970's, it has been dramatically developed to be the main communication approach for information society today, among which that the ultra-long-haul submerged network is the deserved backbone system. Generally the transoceanic submerged network is buried on the seabed under average 8000 meters of sea level, due to technical complexity and huge cost impact , it is very challenging regarding its'buildup, upgrade and maintenance, as a result its reliability requirement is extremely high. The system lifetime should be more than 25years with malfunction is less than 2~3 times based on industry standard. How to secure this reliability is a critical research subject, since the system is constituted with the components like fiber and optical device, thus the quality of these discrete devices is the key for system reliability assurance.This thesis is based on product design and manufacturing of Oclaro submarine products, comparing with the requirements for other terrestrial products, it elaborates quality and reliability management system for high reliable optical device in submerged network, with the mainline of delivering high reliable product to satisfy customers, it studies the application of quality management system and technique in product design and manufacturing, and get some new practical methods and techniques as well. In the meantime, it also shares case study of quality issues in submarine product and related lesson learnt. The purpose of this thesis is to summarize the experience of quality management on high reliable product, to assist Oclaro's further growth in this market segment, in parallel it is to give some suggestion to the development of domestic company in this area. These summary and experience can also be the reference to other industry. |
