The global economy is in an important historical period which is changing from the"Industry Economy"based on the consumption of raw materials and energy to the"Knowledge Economy"based on the knowledge. Domestic and foreign advanced manufacturing companies are committed to improving product innovation to improve their core competitiveness. As one of the bases of product innovation, product knowledge's effective classification and management is conducive to shorten product development time and avoid repetitive design and improve product reliability and quality, then increase the competitiveness of enterprises. In this paper, with theory of knowledge engineering and product innovation theory, knowledge of product life cycle model were studied. Main tasks are as follows:(1) On the base of summary of knowledge-based Engineering and theories about product innovation,classified the knowledge about product development based on the product development life cycle and product function structure and product knowledge supporter. And demanding for innovation,discussed the product innovation design process.based on KANO, QFD (Quality Function Deployment) and TRIZ (Theory of Inventive Problem Solving) theory.(2) To the main line of product, studied product knowledge in all stages of product life cycle containing demand for products, conceptual design, detailed design, manufacturing and products services. And described the product life cycle knowledge structure and organization with UML (Unified Modeling Language) tool.(3) Based on the conparison between several typical knowledge representation methods,with production rules and frame representation methods, descripted various products knowledge of the product life cycle of, and then further explored the CBR(Case Based Reasoning) knowledge reuse methods and rules of the knowledge inference tree method of reasoning.(4) Designed and implemented a prototype system for modeling product knowledge based on Java Web technology, and verifies the product life cycle knowledge modeling method is feasible and reasonable with liquid resistance soft start product innovation as an example.
