The competition in construction market is now becoming more and more intense, along with economic globalization all through the world. It has become more urgent for construction enterprises to improving their ability and level of project management, which will raise their competence in the market. The Project Management Maturity Assessment Model (PMMAM) is a convenient tool to evaluate project management for certain organizations, thus is selected in this paper to evaluate the status of project management in construction enterprises, find main defects and exploit for improvement measurements, so as to push ahead project management in construction enterprises.In this paper, a full literature review for researching and application the PMMAM in China and foreign countries was conducted first, then the feasibility study of using PMMAM for construction project management was analyzed, and the OPM3 model promoted by PMI was introduced. Then the situation of construction project management for Chinese construction enterprises was analyzed, and five categories of main defects were summarized, such as organization structure, objective management, performance evaluation, etc. After that, an evaluation criteria index and questionnaire survey was designed. This survey was conducted in the Project Management board of the Third Bureau of China Construction Company in the Wuhan International Exhibition Center project, and the data were analyzed. Several aspects of defects were drawn and related improvement suggestions were given.It is proved through the study that PMMAM is a convenient assessment tool for project management, and can provide some directive suggestion. Yet it needs more exploitation for more standard and reasonable use.
