After the financial crisis, the international crude oil freight index fluctuated at a low level. Due to the rise of various operating cost, the competiton in tanker shipping market became increasingly intensified. Meanwhile, China's crude oil imports increased sharply. However, the market share of domestic tanker shipping enterprises is still relatively low, which highlights the necessity of sharpening their comprehensive competitiveness, particularly in current international tanker shipping market full of uncertainty.Firstly, this thesis summarizes existing research on competitiveness of tanker shipping enterprises which focus on index system and methods. Then, enlightened by the research experiences that come from the project of Overall Risk Management of China Shipping Group as well as the internship in Shanghai Shipping Exchange, this thesis proposes a new index system that revolves around the competitiveness of oil tanker shipping enterprises. Moreover, Super-Efficient Data Envelopment Analysis (SE-DEA) is introduced to carry out the horizontal analysis which aims to compare the competitiveness of several leading oil tanker shipping enterprises. Besides, from a longitudinal perspective, China Merchants Energy Shipping Co. Ltd is selected to evaluate its trend of competitiveness in the span of 2006-2010. The calculation results show that the overall performance of China Merchants Energy Shipping Co. Ltd is best. Even so, there is still large room for its perfection especially in the aspect of corporate alliances, market share, company brand and fleet capacity. In conclusion, the result of this thesis can be severed as scientific references for international tanker shipping enterprises to enhance their economic efficiency and market competitiveness.
