| During the past decade, China's crude oil import has risen sharply, which demands the immediately matching shipping capacity of the domestic oil shipping companies. Therefore, how to steer the Chinese oil shipping enterprises towards a promising development is a very big problem facing the Chinese entrepreneurs. The aim of this research is to find out the weak points of Chinese tanker companies in oil shipping competition by analyzing the core constitute parts of competing ability of oil tanker shipping companies, and then to put forward some methods for improving which might give light to the development of Chinese oil shipping companies.Chapter two of the thesis studies the basic theories on the core competence. Basing on the examination of the concept of the core competence and its features, the thesis gives its own understanding about the core competence of the oil shipping companies: the ability of the oil shipping companies, during current and future market competition, to realize a highly effective functional restructure by drawing on the various resources within and outside the enterprises and by seizing golden business opportunities emerging in the oil shipping market and, thus, to maximize the enterprises' profits by providing satisfactory and consumer-oriented service which is approved by both society and environment. Then, In chapter three, basing himself on a rich quantitative analysis about the supply and demand in international oil shipping market, the author explores the ten features of that market.Chapter four, having studied the measuring methods of the core competence and the index system building principles, construct a complete set of index for evaluating the core competence of oil shipping companies. The index constitutes three levels and suggests a comprehensive four-dimensional evaluating system for the core competence of the international oil shipping companies. The four dimensions are fleet carrying capacity, operational performance, business management and ability to adjust to the social situation and environment.Chapter five introduces the mathematic method for the evaluation of the competing ability of an enterprise. In this thesis the AHP-FUZZY method is adopted. The chapter starts with the four kinds of subjective functions and their models. Thenthe author discusses the weight-determined steps and consistency test measures of the AHP. At last, the author introduces the model for determining the evaluation results by employing the AHP-FUZZY.Basing on the above-mentioned index system, chapter six, taking five of the world top ten oil shipping companies, namely Frontline, Teekay, O.S.G, N.Y.K, M.O.L, and China shipping oil tanker company for demonstrative analysis. The final order emerges: Frontline, Teekay, O.S.G, N.Y.K, M.O.L and China shipping oil tanker company. At last, the author compares the respective indexes at every level in China shipping oil tanker company with the maximums obtained so as to work out the differences. Then the differences are ranked. The indexes in China shipping oil tanker company showing the biggest disparity are the factors to enjoy the priority of being improved first and this shall be the basic approach to promote the competing ability. By calculation, it is found that the largest disparity between China shipping oil tanker company and other oil shipping magnates is fleet carrying capacity. So the primary task of China shipping oil tanker company is to enhance the fleet carrying capacity.Fostering core competence has become the aim of all oil tanker shipping companies in the fiercely competitive market The methods and results of this research can also be used for reference by other Chinese oil shipping tanker companies for improving their core competence. |
