Since the beginning of 21st century, contracting model has undergone great changes in the international hydropower market. Nowadays there are more and more EPC hydropower projects, especially those required financing. As project design is not monopolized by the West any more, it has provided the broad and bright market for Chinese hydropower enterprises and also provided rare opportunities to bring Chinese hydropower technology to the international level.Hydropower projects feature complex technology and long construction period. As for contracting overseas EPC hydropower project the project shall be affected in respects of politics, economy, culture and international situation of the country where the project is to be constructed. The project is therefore of much uncertainty and risk, which requires that the Contractor shall not only possess some comprehensive integration ability and management ability but also accumulate experience on international project management. At present Chinese hydropower enterprises are still in the process of transforming from construction contracting to EPC general contracting model. Due to lack of international project management experience a great variety of problems shall occur inevitably during the project implementation process. Through the discussion of EPC international hydropower project management this article is written to sum up and conclude some features of EPC international hydropower projects as well as the management thoughts and methods, which hopefully can provide certain assistance and reference for enterprises and persons engaged in EPC international hydropower projects in respect of project management.This article has systematically analyzed such management characteristics as bidding risk control, bid price calculation, financing proposal and contract negotiation at EPC international hydropower project bidding stage as well as technical risk control, project design, equipment procurement and project construction during the project implementation process. This article combines with project cases for detailed explanation. With application of project management knowledge and theory this article illustrates in detail process, quality and cost control thoughts and methods as well as research and application of value engineering at each stage during EPC international hydropower project implementation process. It sums up the management concepts on EPC international hydropower project simplified as one center, two principles, three management, four optimization and five controls. Through the discussion and research on full process management of EPC international hydropower project, this article sums up project full process management models. The management concepts and management methods elaborated in this article are very practical and shall be of some reference value for the full process management of EPC international hydropower projects.
