China has the world's richest rare earth resources, with accounting for36%of theworld's rare earth reserves. The rare earth industry is one of advantages industries withinternational competition in China. China rare earth products accounted for more than80%of world market share, and keep the absolute advantage in the global supply.However, China did not grasp the international pricing of rare earth products, replacing itfrom the enormous environmental costs of resource consumption, serious environmentalpollution. Therefore, sustainable development analysis of rare earth industry hasfar-reaching significance to convert the real advantage of China's rare earth resources intoeconomic competitiveness.Firstly, According to the actual development of the current situation of rare earthindustry, firstly, the paper outlines the background and significance of carrying outevaluation study of rare earth industry sustainable development, and systematicallyexposit of the thesis applied, such as industrial cluster theory, theory of sustainabledevelopment, circular economy theory and AHP.Secondly, the paper comprehensively analyzes the international and externalenvironment of China's rare earth industry, and with deep discussions of the internationalproduction of rare earth products, consumer, demand, prices of rare earth product. On this basis, put forward China's rare earth industry should take the road ofsustainable development, and circular economy development model adopted, in line basedon the domestic market, expanding domestic demand, end-use applications of rare earthproducts to enhance and improve the ability of independent innovation, attention to humanresource development of rare earth, and accelerate rare earth environmental protectionwith establishment of standards and related policies.
