Spatial pattern of regional circular economy is a crucial way to harmoniousdevelopment of human-land relationship. It provides a feasible and effective approachto regional sustainable development, and is also an important research field in humangeography.Based on elaborate review of theories and practices on regional circular economy athome and abroad, this dissertation analyzes the theory of development and spatialpattern of regional circular economy systematically. The theories include circulareconomy and ecological economy, regional cooperation and dependence, relationsbetween industrial agglomeration and regional development. Some studies have beendone on the regional circular economy in Liaoning Province, including regionalinfluencing factors and differences of regional circular economy. From theperspective of regional geography, circular economy is interpreted in two differentdimensions: province and city. The dissertation covers4main parts:1. Analysis on theories of development and spatial pattern of regional circulareconomy, including its concept, its theoretical basis, and the relationship betweenindustrial agglomeration and circular economy.2. Discussion about the influencing factors and regional differences of regionalcircular economy. It is found that resources and environment, capital, technology, industrial structure, cultural concepts, policies and regulations are the main factorscausing regional differences. With the aid of fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method, the different development levels of regional circular economy between cities inLiaoning Province are evaluated by an indicator system that composes11indicators.The results indicate that: the development level of circular economy is diminishinggradually from central areas to the periphery areas; development levels of coastalareas are higher than that of inland areas; development levels of resource-based citiesare generally low. 3. Research on development and spatial pattern of provincial circular economy. Fromthe perspective of industry types, the dissertation analyses spatial pattern of provincialcircular economy. Three modes of agricultural circular economy distribution areintroduced: agriculture, stockbreeding and fishery compound ecological industrialchain; biomass utilization mode; and symbiotic mode of agriculture-industry-serviceindustry. Furthermore, the spatial pattern of major industrial circular economy, suchas energy industrial base, chemical industrial base and steel industrial base, isdiscussed. Lastly, service sector is described from eco-logistics services, eco-tourismand eco-restaurant. It is suggested that focus should be placed on the circulareconomy development of producer services and the construction level of circulareconomy of consumer services is yet to be increased.4. Research on development and spatial pattern of circular economy in city level.Industrial structure adjustment and optimization can promote industrial quality, transform economical development mode and speed up the development of circulareconomy. The construction of eco-industrial parks, which are the main carrier forcircular economy, provides a feasible and effective way to develop circular economy. The coordinated development of regional circular economy requires both clearorientation of industrial functions and industrial cooperation. The coordinateddevelopment between old industrial districts and economic development zones areanalyzed. It is concluded that in old industrial district, emphasis should be placed onimproving environmental conditions, removing polluting enterprises, and developingmodern service industry. Economic development zones should realize industrialcluster on the basis of leading industries.
